George Washington was the first ever official president of the U.S. and did a great deal for the developing U.S. He was also one of the founding fathers of the U.S. and was an army general in the American revolution.

Theodore Roosevelt
Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th president of the US. He was chosen to be on Mt. Rushmore because the sculptors (Gutzon and Lincoln Borglum) thought he represented north America’s destiny and dynasty along with the other presidents. Another interesting fact - during his time in office, he was a driving force in the Progressive Era in the early 20th century.

Thomas Jefferson was the second vice president of the US and the third ever American president. He served under John Adams when he was in the vice presidential office and was elected to the position of US president in 1800.
Abraham Lincoln is the 16th president of the United States of America. He was chosen to be on Mount Rushmore because he led the U.S. through its most constitutional, military, and moral problems during the American Civil War. He also wrote the Gettysburg Address in 1863. After the Civil War he was unfortunately assassinated by a confederate sympathizer named John Wilkes Booth on April 14,1865.
